Indianapolis has locked up one of their biggest offensive weapons for the foreseeable future as the club agreed on a three-year extension with Jonathan Taylor.

The 2021 Pro Bowler will be earning $42 million as part of his new deal, including $26.5 million in guarantees, making him the first running back in the league to land a long-term contract worth $10 million or more per season since the Browns Nick Chubb nearly 800 days ago.

That ends a tumultuous few months between Taylor and the club after the 24-year-old had requested a trade during the offseason, spending the first four games of this campaign on the injured reserve list, recovering from ankle surgery.
newline
He only featured in 11 regular season encounters last year, rushing for 861 yards and four touchdowns before hurting his ankle in Week 15.
newline
The previous season, Taylor was an All-Pro, leading the league in rushing with 1,811 yards on the ground, with 18 scores.
newline
Heading into the 2022 regular season, Taylor was ranked number five by his fellow players regarding the NFL Top 100 Players of 2022, having compiled eight consecutive 100-plus scrimmage yards from week 4-11 of the 2021 campaign, winning the Burt Bell Award as NFL player of the year at the end of that season.
newline
In his first season as the starting running back in 2021, Taylor was far and away the best player at his position, leading the league in rushing TDs (18) and finishing the campaign more than 500 yards ahead of Nick Chubb, who was second in rushing yards that year (1,259).
newline
Taylor was removed from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday and is expected to make his season debut on Sunday when the Colts battle the Tennessee Titans.
newline
Indy heads into that encounter in a four-way tie for first in the AFC South with a record of 2-2.
