One of the most frightening scenes ever witnessed on Monday Night Football seems to have a happy ending as Damar Hamlin was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

The news comes just nine days after the Buffalo Bills' safety went into cardiac arrest in a road game versus the Cincinnati Bengals and had to be administered CPR on the field, while he was also resuscitated.

In a news release, Dr. James Nadler said, "We have completed a series of tests and evaluation, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged."

It's the next major step in Hamlin's incredible recovery, and the news of his release comes just a couple of days after he was deemed healthy enough to be taken to a Buffalo hospital from the University hospital in Cincinnati, where he was being cared for following the game.

The 24-year-old's heart stopped after he made a routine tackle on the Bengals' Tee Higgins, causing him to collapse on January 2nd in a game that was later officially cancelled by the league.

Following Hamlin's hospitalization, donations poured in from all over the world, totalling over $8 million as part of a GoFundMe page.

Hamlin has said that he'll use some proceeds from the sales of a new T-shirt, emblazoned with "Did We Win?" along with his hands in the shape of a heart, to raise money for the trauma centre in Cincinnati that initially treated him.

The Bills host the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card Round on Sunday.
