Old friends will be reunited on the Vegas strip next season as Jimmy Garoppolo is set to join the Las Vegas Raiders.
The free agent quarterback agreed to a three-year $67.5 million deal to play under Josh McDaniels, his New England offensive coordinator when Jimmy G was Tom Brady’s backup.
As part of this deal, Garoppolo will receive $34 million in guarantees as he prepares to replace Derek Carr, who recently signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Garoppolo had been behind center for the San Francisco 49ers since 2017, helping them reach the Super Bowl during the 2019 campaign when they finished the regular season at 13-3 but lost the big game to the Kansas City Chiefs.
His departure from San Fran is no surprise seeing as the team traded up to draft Trey Lance at #3 in 2021 before the veteran was forced into action when Lance got hurt early last season.
Jimmy G would be sidelined with an injury weeks later, leading to the emergence of Brock Purdy as the starter, with Mr Irrelevant turning into an overnight sensation.
The former Eastern Illinois QB, who turns 32 in November, has suffered numerous injuries since being traded from the Patriots to the 49ers.
He did win a pair of Super Bowl titles as a backup to Brady in New England.
Before breaking his foot in 2022, the native of Arlington Heights threw for 2,437 yards with 16 touchdowns compared to four interceptions and a record of 7-3.
