Kylian Mbappe’s future has been a topic of major discussion once again this summer. It has emerged that the French World Cup winner does not want to extend his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain, which runs until the summer of 2024. That has put the Ligue 1 champions in a difficult position. PSG have also made it clear that they either want Mbappe to put pen on paper on an extension or leave the club this summer.

Following comments from both parties in recent days, it was starting to look like a summer transfer exit was closer than ever. But now, it looks like no door has been closed yet and PSG will still try to agree a contract extension with Mbappe.

New PSG head coach Luis Enrique and Mbappe reportedly met in late June to discuss the future of PSG's project before the Spaniard was appointed as Christophe Galtier's replacement but that has not been enough to convince the Bondy man to rethink his stance.

If there is one thing we have learned over the years, it is that nothing should ever be ruled out, even the Frenchman potentially signing an extension with PSG. For the time being, his exit from the club looks almost inevitable. And in that scenario, his most likely destination appears to be Real Madrid, even though Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Mbappe in recent weeks as well.

Mbappe, who has been in Cameroon on a visit and now goes to Algeria, must return to work next Monday, July 17th, along with the rest of the internationals. PSG travel for their tour of Japan on July 22nd. It is normal that if his future has not been resolved, he will travel with the rest of the squad. Legally, Mbappe is under contract with the option to renew for a further year, until 2025, if he gives notice before July 31st. Also, July 31st is the deadline set by the club in its letter to the player to agree on renewal or sale. From August 1st, the club will continue to listen to offers, but the strategy to be followed is still unknown.

Personally, I think Mbappe would only leave PSG if Real Madrid comes knocking. Madrid will need to fund the transfer that could be close to $200 million meaning they will need to sell at least one player first. There are plenty of moving parts necessary for Mbappe to leave abruptly. I believe the Frenchman will be suiting for the French champions once again come August.
