Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain that he intends to part ways with the club at the end of this season when his contract expires, according to widespread reports on February 15. The precise terms of his departure are yet to be finalized and an official announcement is expected once negotiations are concluded in the coming months.

Reports also claimed that Mbappe is inclined towards a move to Real Madrid. However, key figures within his inner circle remain uncertain about the terms offered by the Spanish club, leading to a delay in the decision-making process. With his PSG contract expiring on June 30th, Mbappe is permitted to hold discussions with other clubs as he has entered the final six months of his agreement with the French champions. Liverpool and Arsenal have also been linked with an offer for the player, who is likely to become one of the most sought-after free agents in modern football history.

Arsenal and Liverpool are the two Premier League sides that have been tipped to make a move for the striker, as well as Chelsea. Reports indicate that Liverpool is currently not actively pursuing Mbappe, leaving Madrid as the most realistic destination, although financial concerns may hinder the transfer.

Reports have suggested that Mbappe's base salary at the French champions is €75 million net per year ($82.8m / £64.4m), excluding bonuses. His contract, signed in 2022, expires in June 2024. According to reports upon the signing of his new contract, Mbappe's new deal also earned him a €100m ($110.4m / £85.9m) signing bonus just for agreeing to stay at the club.

The Athletic reported in January that when Madrid attempted to sign the superstar in 2022, they offered a €130m signing bonus and a salary of €26m per year. He then went and renewed his contract at PSG.

Any notion of Mbappe being distracted or uncommitted to the PSG cause this season has been swiftly put to bed. Following the departures of Neymar and Lionel Messi, he is unquestionably the main man as Luis Enrique seeks to implement a high-possession, high-pressing and cohesive style of play at the Parc des Princes.

PSG are in their customary position at the top of the Ligue 1 table, nine points clear of Nice with Mbappe having scored 20 goals in 19 league appearances, also laying on four assists.
