Three of the four teams in the NFC North are slated to pick in the top 20 this year, and there are plenty of spots on these rosters which could use an injection of youth.
Here is a look at my projected picks for this division.
Detroit Lions- Round 1- #6- Tyree Wilson- Edge Rusher/Linebacker- Texas Tech
The Lions were within a whisker of the playoffs in 2022, quickly turning over their roster with a mixture of youth and experience.
Aidan Hutchinson, the #2 pick from 2022, had a great rookie campaign, while James Houston was a pleasant surprise as well, though Dan Campbell could use more depth in the pass rushing department.
Wilson’s versatility stands out, as he can play multiple positions and is capable of quickly shedding offensive linemen blocks.
He rarely missed a tackle in college, plus he was a savvy and intuitive edge rusher, who could chase plays down from the backside, while showing incredible quickness off the line.
All of those things could make the difference between making or missing the playoffs for Detroit next season.
Chicago Bears- Round 1- #9- Paris Johnson- Offensive Tackle- Ohio State
As great as Justin Fields is running the ball, he needs more time to sit in the pocket and go down the field, no pun intended.
Adding an aggressive five-star recruit with elite athleticism and movement skills would be a significant asset to this Bears offense next season.
Johnson seems to understand stunts and delayed blitzes well, with a robust and flexible core and he can fire off the snap quickly.
Green Bay Packers- Round 1- #15- Myles Murphy- Defensive End- Clemson
The Packers need to keep building along the edge, and Myles Murphy would be an excellent addition to this group.
According to ESPN, he was a First-team All-ACC selection in 2022 and was ranked the 33rd-best player in college football that same year.
Murphy has speed and power along with a terrific ability to slip off blocks, while possessing an impressive athletic ability with an NFL-Calibre spin-move.
Minnesota Vikings- Round 1- #23- Cam Smith- Cornerback- South Carolina
The Vikings need to shore up their pass defense if they want to be another contending team next season, and Cam Smith brings a lot to the table.
Not only does he possess great instincts, but his overall athleticism is outstanding, and he has the length and speed to emerge as a starter very soon.
His quick feet and smoothness on the backpedal should make him well-suited to this Minnesota defensive setup in 2023.
